Best Opening Songs of 2017

After four seasons of new anime to watch, 2017 is now coming to a close. I believe it’s only customary to greet the new year by celebrating the previous one and what’s a celebration without music? So join in on the party with this list of amazing opening songs from 2017!

Winter

“Shadow and Truth” by ONE III NOTES

ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka

This smooth and jazzy opening sets up an intriguing, slightly mysterious atmosphere for the show to come. With hip-hop influences and female vocals that have a techno-pop vibe it would feel like a song that would grow chaotic but instead, it flows pleasantly, sending an alluring message to move your feet not just on the dance floor but to answer the call, to go on a journey.

“MY LIBERATION” by nano

Chain Chronicle: Haecceitas no Hikari

A fast paced shot of adrenaline, this pop-rock song is backed by an exciting beat and steady guitar music. The strong, sharp vocals deliver a determined sensation to the listener, a loud cheer to join in the fight and pump up viewers.

“Genkai Kentobashite” by Merry★Go★Lands

Reikenzan Eichi e no Shikaku

This opening makes use of beautiful flute music amid the guitar and piano, giving it a unique flair. The harmonization of the vocals are wonderful and truly add to the adventurous spirit of the song, leaving the feeling you’ve been told of a great legend or fable.

Spring

“Imakoko” by Nao Touyama

Tsuki Ga Kirei

Led by vocals clear and pleasant to the ear, this lovely performance sets a tone of wistfulness in its melody and delivery. It shines with an aura of purity and hesitant hope, matching the innocence of young love and painting a picture of the somehow peaceful every day that remains within it.

“Morning Glory” by (K)NoW_NAME

Sakura Quest

Sakura Quest’s opening is peppy and light with fun piano music that you can’t help but bop your head along with. It gives the relaxed vibe of sitting in a coffee shop or a small, local music hub and leaves a smile on your face.

“Floria” by Tomohisa Sako

Natsume Yuujinchou Roku

If there was one word I had to describe this song with, it would be merry. Now that might just be the holidays getting to me, but this opening truly feels like the perfect cheer-up song; something you’d want to wake up to. It’s calming yet bright and enthusiastic, a perfect mood to have in the day.

Summer

“Deal with the devil” by Tia

Kakegurui

A stylistic song with a jazzy, almost eerie beat that certainly catches your attention. Set to a clever tempo, the vocals seem to drip with lustful and greedy emotions; well-fitting for an anime about gambling.

“On My MiND” by Mrs. GREEN APPLE

Nana Maru San Batsu

One of the most attractive things for an opening song is if it hypes you up for the show, and this one definitely does! It has a fun tempo and tempts you to turn it up to full blast to enjoy not just the melody, but the feeling of the vibrations beneath your feet.

“Deep in Abyss” by Miyu Tomita and Mariya Ise

Made in Abyss

Performed by the voice actors of the lead characters, “Deep in Abyss” has a fantastic rhythm and an endearing sound. It has the feel of adventure with just the perfect touch of magic and mystery.

Fall

“Here” by JUNNA

Mahoutsukai no Yome

A beautiful and powerfully delivered song that causes you to search for the meaning behind every hint in the tone of the vocals. It’s reminiscent of a hymn in certain ways but with the spice of Spanish-sounding instrumentals intertwined with the music.

“Ugoku, Ugoku” by Inori Minase & Yurika Kubo

Shoujo Shuumatsu Ryokou

This song captures the cheer and wondering atmosphere of childhood. Incredibly cute and nice to the ears, it has bubbly but mellow sounds that may remind you of many fun, side-scrolling platform games.

“Kyoumen no Nami” by YURIKA

Houseki no Kuni

A unique, thoughtful touch runs throughout this opening. Beginning slowly with interesting pace, a clear clicking noise almost like that of typing or a clock can be heard and continues to flow with the rest of the song as it picks up. This along with the well-picked accompanying music creates a mood similar to a slam poetry performance.

That wraps up our list of the best opening songs of 2017. Agree, disagree, or think we missed one? Let us know in the comments below.
