2018 has officially begun and with it new anime is as always bound to come. As I write this several shows have already released their first episode! It can be a bit overwhelming so Miso is here to shine the spotlight on some series you should definitely keep an eye out for.
Violet Evergarden
Originally previewed in 2017, Violet Evergarden by Kyoto Animation tells of “Auto-Memories Dolls” whose purpose is to record one’s speech and feelings. These mechanical dolls were created to bring happiness to a lone doctor’s wife but word quickly spread and more people became interested in these machines. The series follows one of these dolls, Violet, as she experiences all shapes and forms of people’s emotions. With a delicate subject like emotions, everyone is waiting to see whether this will be all flash and no substance or a true gem of 2018.
Citrus
Following the lives of two students who find out they’re now step-sisters, Citrus adapts one of the most currently well known yuri manga. This genre is quite underrepresented in anime so there are many eagerly waiting to see the outcome of a highly praised and somewhat controversial shoujo ai (or girls’ love) manga coming to the small screen.
Darling in the FranXX
An upcoming original mecha series by A-1 Pictures that is set in the distant future where children pilots are produced in a plantation known as the “birdcage,” knowing nothing of the world or freedom. One of these pilots, once known as a prodigy, has fallen behind and his existence seems almost unnecessary if he’s not able to operate one of the massive robots. One day, a mysterious girl called “Zero Two” appears before him who could very well change his destiny.
Wotaku ni Koi wa Muzukashii
Another show by the studio A-1 Pictures, this one is an adaptation of popular romcom manga WotaKoi which ranked no. 1 among female readers in “Kono Manga ga Sugoi!” 2016. It focuses on the love life of otaku, specifically two coworkers who knew each other in middle school. One of them is game-crazed and the other is a fujoshi…and now they’re dating?? This haphazard romance is a likely competitor for favorite comedy this year.
Sequels Galore…
There are also a bunch of sequels coming in 2018 that viewers are getting hyped for!
Shingeki no Kyojin 3
Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu
Boku no Hero Academia 3
FLCL2 & 3
Cardcaptor Sakura: Clear Card-hen
Fairy Tail (2018)
Gintama.: Shirogane no Tamashii-hen
And with that our feature has come to an end. Are you excited for any of the anime on this list or maybe one we missed? Comment and let us know!
