End of Year Review: Pokemon Sword & Shield

Your adventure in Alola is over: you’re now the champion of the Alola region! But what is next? Is it time for the next challenge of conquering ‘Ultra Alola‘?

Thankfully not.

Get ready to explore the riches of Great Britain. This region runs things a lot more different than any other you’ve visited before.

What is it called again? Oh, the Galar region.

The expansive Galar Region.

Heat in the streets

Pokémon Sword & Shield are the new, hot games on the streets. Twitter’s appreciation of the game is almost endless, and the sales are setting records. Many people have beaten it already, but if you’re a slowpoke (get it?) like me who is enjoying this new experience, then taking that champion title from Leon has become more of a future tale. Don’t worry though, those moments with Skorbunny are captivating (Team Skorbunny here, if you were wondering)!

Pretty much like everyone else you’re having either a tough time picking between Sword or Shield, but no matter which game you purchased the design of this new region is quite unbelievable. No, the graphics aren’t as great as other Switch titles such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or The Witcher 3, but when have you ever played a Pokémon game for its graphics? …I’ll wait.

I mean, look at that UI!

Pokémon Sword & Shield has its flaws, but that doesn’t block out how good of a game it is. The visuals are the best we’ve seen from any Pokémon game, and it makes the adventure a cut above many of the Pokémon main title series. For an RPG, what most of us look forward to is the story, and let’s just say the story isn’t a disappointment either. What is there not to like?

A step in the right direction

Pokémon Sword & Shield brings in a lot of flavor for a Pokemon game; a taste of what’s to come in the future. With Dynamaxing (making your Pokémon bigger), Co-op raid boss battles and the PC box link, Nintendo has shown that it can only get better from here on.

Mega-Evolutions– Uh, Dynamaxing.

Nintendo will not only improve from this but maybe, just maybe, we will get that several region adventurous Pokémon game we’ve all been asking for!

Pokémon Sword & Shield isn’t just one of, if not, the best Pokémon game ever made, but also the beginning of a new era.

What do you all think of Pokemon Sword and Shield? Also, what is your favorite Pokemon game of all time? Let us know!
