Shueisha Games just announced that HOSHiN ENGi Re:surrection will head to Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Steam in 2027. In collaboration with LASTWONDER, the roguelite game will feature original characters alongside classic mainstays in a story that takes place after the original.
About HOSHiN ENGi Re:surrection
Players take the role of Toshin, a new hero drawn for the game by Fujisaki, and descend into dungeons that rearrange themselves every run. Combat centers on Paope, mythic treasures wielded by the gods and immortals of legend, which slot together into builds and evolve as they are upgraded. A spirit beast companion fights alongside Toshin on the ground and can be ridden into the air. It’s all animated to look like the manga’s pages set in motion.
HOSHiN ENGi ran in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1996 to 2000, has passed 22 million copies in print, and reached English readers through Viz Media and two anime adaptations. The setting is ancient China at the fall of a dynasty, where immortals, demons, and mythic beasts fight a war that spills into the human world. Gameplay Features
Dual-slot Paope customization. Combat revolves around two distinct slots. A Main Paope anchors primary offensive capabilities, while a Sub Paope dynamically alters the tactical flow of battle. Maximizing upgrades unlocks devastating evolved attacks from an extensive pool of combinations.
Autonomous spirit beast support. Toshin’s companion, Chuchue Doji, acts independently on the ground to defend him and disrupt foes. Mounting Chuchue Doji unlocks specialized aerial actions, allowing players to navigate the skies, evade strikes, and ambush enemies from their blind spots.
Branching dungeon paths. Every venture features a dynamically changing layout. Players navigate from island to island along split routes, with completion rewards revealed in advance to ensure strategic pathfinding is just as vital as combat mastery.
Rewarding progression loop. Secret Arts are discovered at random mid-run, while gathered resources can be carried back to the hub. Spending these materials unlocks permanent enhancements for Toshin and individual Paope, ensuring even failed attempts drive future success forward.
Bonds with legendary allies. Connect deeply with iconic characters like Taikobo, Supushan, Yozen, Nataku, and Koh Tenka through hub interactions and mid-run dialogue. Developing stronger relationships unlocks their battlefield support and provides opportunities to spar for valuable rewards.
